The Department of Chemical Engineering at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) was founded in 1993. Graduate programs conferring MS and PhD degrees were subsequently incorporated. Currently, the department has 17 full-time faculty members with a student body totaling more than 390 students. In a short span of ten years, the department has grown to become a major educational and research institute for chemical engineering in Taiwan.

The traditional features of chemical engineering in Taiwan have been gradually transformed due to a global trend of stricter environmental regulations and the accelerated outsourcing of our local manufacturing industries. Based on these facts, the department has seized the historical opportunity and adopted modern developmental goals from the very beginning.
